The Houston Astros might not have all the same group from their World Series-winning days, but they possess one hell of a rookie in Jeremy Pena. He is filling the void left by Carlos Correa quite nicely at shortstop, offering solid defense and an impact bat. That's catching the eye of Jose Altuve, who is realizing just how special Pena really is.

Via Mark Berman:

“Oh my God, so good, so strong. We realized yesterday how powerful & strong he can be for the Astros. He that curve ball a little bit firm & that ball flies a long way..I’ve said before,he’s a great kid. He wants to work hard..wants to learn.”

The Astros SS hit an absolute bomb on Thursday against the Tigers and has gone 4 for 10 in his last three games. While he's only batting .233, Pena has six homers already. He's a big reason for Houston's four-game winning streak as well.

There was always a question mark as to how the Astros would replace Correa, who proved to be such a huge piece of their success over the years. At just 24-years-old, Pena is already showing that he can be the long-term option at shortstop for this team. This is just the start for the Dominican native.
