The Colorado Avalanche are doing everything possible to retain its main core after winning the Stanley Cup. Although they lost Darcy Kuemper to the Washington Capitals, this front office has done a solid job in keeping as much of the championship roster intact. On Wednesday, they made a big re-signing as Artturi Lehkonen returns to Colorado.

According to Elliotte Friedman, the Avalanche have re-signed Lehkonen on a five-year deal averaging $4.5 million per year. It's a solid contract for the star left wing, as he provides consistency on the offensive end for Colorado. After making their Stanley Cup run, this franchise is shaping up to be a contender once again next season.

This is a great signing by this front office. Not only do they retain one of their top scoring options, but the Avalanche will maintain the chemistry they've built on their championship run. After recording 19 goals, 19 assists, and 38 points total last year, Lehkonen will stay in Colorado for the long haul.

While playing his first four years with the Montreal Canadiens, the veteran left wing was traded to the Avalanche right before the deadline last season. He's been a consistent scoring option throughout most of his career but really shined in the playoffs in Colorado. He should maintain that level of play, as he's just 26 years old.

Look for the Avalanche to continue making big moves during free agency as this franchise has a chance to repeat for another Stanley Cup. It'll take some serious effort to do so, but with this roster, anything is possible.
