The Chicago Bears are gotten off to a solid start out of the gate for the 2018 season by splitting the first two games of the season, but there have been some notable bumps along the way for second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky as has transitioned in the new offensive scheme under head coach Matt Nagy.

With that in mind, Nagy was quick to point out that there will continue to be some growing pains as the season rolls along in comparison to what Patrick Mahomes is experiencing with the Kansas City Chiefs as he had an entire year to get acclimated to the offense before getting out on the field this season, via Darin Gantt of Pro Football Talk.

“Well, what’s fair to compare is you have one, in Patrick, who has had a full year in this offense to understand it,” Nagy said, via Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune. “Now, regardless of playing it in, he’s had a full year, more than a year to sit behind it and learn and understand and watch tape with those quarterbacks last year and get to see all the talk, all the discussions of where you go on this play and that play.

“Whereas Mitchell hasn’t had that. He’s being forced into this thing right away, and so that’s where these growing pains are going to occur. That’s where, I just want to make it clear to him and to everybody, if you’re realistic about it, it does take a little bit of time. And in the meantime, as you saw last night, we have a defense that can help us out during this process, and so the sooner we get it and it starts clicking, then the better. But that’s the difference between the two, and it’s obviously near to see Patrick doing so well right now.”

This has been a learning process for Trubisky in his first year under Nagy that has seen him have some difficulty throwing the ball effectively as he's 28th in the league with 387 passing yards along with two touchdowns and an 80.0 passer rating through the first two games. He did take a step forward against the Seattle Seahawks with his first two touchdown passes but he threw a pair of ill-advised throws that were both picked off by cornerback Shaquill Griffin.

Trubisky is clearly a work in progress, but the Bears are more than confident that he will be able to showcase that he can be their long-term solution under center. He has plenty of offensive weapons around him in running backs Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen along with wide receiver Allen Robinson, and tight end Trey Burton make things happen offensively.

It may just simply come down to him getting more comfortable running the offense in order to find more success throwing the ball.
