It remains a long path back for tight end Zach Miller, who continues to recover from a knee injury that required nine different surgeries. He had inked a one-year contract this upcoming season even though the team knew he couldn't play that led to him being placed on the physically unable to perform list on Tuesday.

However, this hasn't stopped Miller from using this time to do whatever it takes to get his NFL career back on track, according to Jeff Dickerson of ESPN.

“With my doctors and everyone I spoke to, we’re not going to put any set limitations on this,” Miller said. “We’re just going to take it as it goes. There has not been a definitive, ‘you can never do this again.’ That hasn’t been talked about. It’s to approach this as you are planning to get back to where I can be myself and play football and then when that time comes, some of that is out of my hands. So, I’m just going to do as much as I can to get that point and see what happens.”

Although Miller won't be able to take the field this upcoming season, he is clearly progressing toward being physically healthy enough to play at some point in time. He is clearly operating with the mindset to be on the field after the 2018 campaign from his devastating knee injury that nearly cost him his leg.

Miller is still a long ways from being able to play once again in the NFL, but the fact that he is still edging his way toward playing could see him back in the next couple of years. This is a necessary part of the journey in order for him to reach his long-term goal.

It may take a little longer than he hopes with several physical hurdles in front of him to clear first, but there may be a path toward continuing his NFL career.
