Since last year, Damian Lillard has always been vocal about not wanting to join forces with other stars elsewhere, just to give himself a better chance of winning a title. He has also said in the past that he is not a fan of the move Kevin Durant made when he decided to take his talents to the Golden State Warriors.

The Portland Trail Blazers star guard made an appearance on the latest episode of Complex’s “Everyday Struggle,” where he discussed his comments from the past. Lillard then made it clear that he prefers to stay put with the Blazers and win a championship, but also understands that everything is not under his control, and some stars could be brought in to his team in the future.

“I mean, like I said about [former Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge], I wouldn't have done it. For me, I'm not joining nobody.”

“I'm not joining nobody. I would not win a championship before I go and team up and do all that. Unless it was something I couldn't control.”

“I’m saying this because this is how I feel, not how I feel at the moment. That’s just how I feel about it. I think if that’s what somebody wants to do, I’m not mad at them for doing it. I’m just telling you what I’m not going to do. That ain’t how we get down,” Lillard responded.

However, the two-time All-Star also clarified that he does not hold it against any player if that’s the route they chose for their careers.

“Nah, if it make them feel good, if they comfortable doing it, then do you.”

Damian Lillard’s statements only goes to show that he is not giving up on the Blazers, and is ready to carry the team on his shoulders in the coming years. He also stresses his rejection of the norm in today's NBA, where players are easily changing teams or even forming “super teams.”

For this coming season, the Blazers have kept their lineup relatively intact, and while that’s a good ploy for them, a number of teams in the West have made significant changes to challenge Kevin Durant and the Warriors.

That said, it may be a tall order for the Blazers to make a deep postseason run. But with Lillard leading the team, it would also be very difficult to count out Portland.
