The Cleveland Browns and new quarterback Deshaun Watson may not have a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, but that did not stop NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell from speaking about the controversy surrounding the newest signal-caller on Lake Erie.

In an interview prior to announcing the first round of picks in tonight's NFL Draft, Goodell was asked about the ongoing investigation into Deshaun Watson and his alleged sexual misconduct with over 20 women during his time with the Houston Texans.

“We’re taking it very seriously,” Goodell told ESPN Browns reporter Jake Trotter. “Our investigators are working on that. … There’s no timetable on it. … The investigation is still ongoing.”

While there is no criminal investigation being levied against Watson, the league is still conducting its own investigation and possible league discipline pending the results of that investigation. Watson's attorney, Rusty Hardin, released a statement at the conclusion of the criminal proceedings.:

“We are delighted that the grand jury has looked at the matter thoroughly and reached the same conclusion we did,” Hardin said. “Deshaun Watson did not commit any crimes and is not guilty of any offenses.”

Hardin continued: “Now that the criminal investigations have been completed, we are happy to move forward with the civil case depositions. We will vigorously defend those cases with every ounce we have. There were no crimes here but there is a plaintiffs’ attorney churning up negative press and churning up his clients hoping for a payday. These cases have been the product of a lawyer maximizing his own personal publicity at the expense of others, including his own clients.”
