In the weeks leading to the 2018 NFL Draft, there has been a building notion that former USC quarterback Sam Darnold will be the first overall pick by the Cleveland Browns. There has been the rise a few other of the promising players at the position in this pre-draft process, but Darnold has remained atop of the conversation.

With that in mind, Darnold threw for the first time officially throw in front of NFL scouts on Wednesday morning in the rain. According to Matt Miller of Bleacher Report, he was given the inclination that the 20-year-old is all but slated to be the top selection.

Darnold had a strong showing at the USC Pro Day making strong and accurate throws both in the pocket and on the move both in the rain and in normal conditions. This has further pumped up his case to be the top selection in this year's draft to take over as the next long-term answer under center.

The Browns had seemingly subtly confirmed that notion as team owner Jimmy Haslam was seen speaking with Darnold's parents in the stands. In addition to that,  following the workout as they tweeted out a video praising him for his strong showing on several of his throws.

All of these indications certainly point to the Browns taking him as the first overall pick come late April. Through his collegiate career along with this Pro Day, Darnold demonstrated plenty of reason to believe that he can succeed at a high level at the next behind his arm.

If this the plan of action that Cleveland intends to go, there won't be any immediate pressure to put him in the fold with veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor being the mix as the starter to begin the season. This should allow for Darnold to get the field when he and the team feel that he is ready to do so. That said, the Browns' decision for the first overall pick sorted out at some point in the next few weeks ahead of the draft.
