The Boston Bruins lost more than just the first two games in their first-round series against the Carolina Hurricanes. On Thursday, Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy announced that the team has ruled out star defenseman Hampus Lindholm to injury.

Lindholm had his world rocked late in the second period on a hit from Hurricanes forward Andrei Svechnikov that sent him sprawling to the ice. He had to be helped to the bench and might very well miss considerably more time than just Game 3.

Lindholm looked as though he didn't know where he was after taking a vicious, but legal hit. That is going to force Cassidy to have to make more adjustments with his defensive pairings.

After Boston lost Game 1 of the series, he moved Matt Grzelcyk to play alongside Charlie McAvoy and bumped down Brandon Carlo to play with Lindholm on the second pair. It's not yet known what the lineup will look like in Game 3 back in Boston.

One thing is for sure, if the Bruins cannot figure out how to score more goals, none of it will matter. In the five meetings with Carolina this season, the Bruins have been outscored 26-4, losing all five games.

Carolina has been the more physical team and earned the 2-0 series lead. But Boston has also committed a number of mistakes that easily could have been avoided that led to Hurricanes goals. The series shifts back to Boston Friday night in a must-win game for Boston.

The one bright spot was that Patrice Bergeron finally got going, scoring both of Boston's goals in Game 2.
