NBA Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen says Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo “earned” the honor of becoming the first international player to get a signature sneaker.

The Nike Air Zoom Freak 1 was released on June 29. Antetokounmpo guided the Bucks to the best record in the NBA last season and won the MVP award:

“I think it’s great. He’s definitely earned it and he’s a player that has worked very hard,” Pippen told Drew Ruiz of SLAM. “Being the MVP of the League this year is something that he earned and is rewarding for him. The sky’s the limit for him and he’s opening doors up for other players in that nature as well. Him being an international player, this is something that he’s worked hard for, probably dreamed about having one day and it’s finally come to fruition for him.”

Antetokounmpo is one of the best basketball players in the world and figures to dominate the NBA for years to come. The Bucks star averaged 27.7 points, 12.5 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game in 2018-19 while shooting 57.8 percent from the floor and 72.9 percent from the free-throw line.

The Bucks lost to the Toronto Raptors in the 2019 Eastern Conference Finals in six games. Now that Kawhi Leonard is in the Western Conference, though, many believe Milwaukee has a great shot at winning the East next season.
