During the first few games of the season, the Chicago Bulls had to deal with the internal issue stemming from an altercation between forwards Bobby Portis and Nikola Mirotic that landed the latter in the hospital with a facial injury and concussion.

This led to the Bulls handling the situation themselves giving out an eight-game suspension in response to his actions. According to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune, commissioner Adam Silver revealed that he allowed for Chicago to dish out the discipline on Portis.

Although there remains much uncertainty in terms of how things will work out once Mirotic is able to return from the injury, the eight-game suspension was a necessary action needed by the Bulls. In fact, it was a reasonable amount of time missed that Silver agreed with being handed out in the manner it was given out.

Portis had also issued an apology for his actions while also reaching out to Mirotic to speak with him directly. There has yet to be any contact between both players, but there is at least a bridge that could be made to mend things.

If things to continue to persist in that same manner, the Bulls may be forced to move one of their veteran forwards to further alleviate the situation. In the meantime, the discipline that they shelled out was approved by the commissioner.
