It was a night to remember for Chicago Bulls rookie power forward Lauri Markkanen. Although he managed to make history for his shooting prowess, his biggest highlight of the night came via dunk.

Despite being known as a shooter, Markkanen flashed his explosiveness by going coast-to-coast for a thunderous dunk over New York Knicks center Enes Kanter during the third quarter. According to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune, head coach Fred Hoiberg claims he almost needed medical attention after witnessing the play:

“I damn near passed out when he did that.”

While Hoiberg may have been exaggerating just a bit, his comments are indicative of how excited the coach is with the rookie's progression throughout the 2017-18 NBA season. Not only did the seventh overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft have his best game of the year, but the Bulls were able to escape with a clutch 122-119 victory over the Knicks.

Markkanen finished the game with 33 points, 10 rebounds, and two steals. Not mention joining Dallas Mavericks superstar power forward Dirk Nowitzki as the only seven-footers in league history to hit at least eight three-pointers in a single game. Speaking of which, Nowitzki had recently praised Markkanen for his similar skill set as Knicks budding star forward Kristaps Porzingis.

Needless to say, the Finland native has gotten the better of his Latvian counterpart by now winning all three of their matchups this season. Markkanen's recent development could largely be the reason why the Bulls are so comfortable with shopping a formidable scorer like power forward Nikola Mirotic at the trade deadline.
