For Chicago Bulls head coach Jim Boylen, Wendell Carter Jr. has the capacity to turn into a basketball legend like Hakeem Olajuwon.

Boylen — who's on his second year as the Bulls' head coach — shared his observation of Carter Jr. Boylen says that the second-year center is equipped with the physical presence, intelligence and great footwork, just like Olajuwon. All he needs is just ample time to fully hone his potential.

“I didn't have a chance to coach Hakeem (Olajuwon) at 19 and 20, but I think his instincts, his physical presence, the combination of his intelligence, his feet, I think gave him, with experience, the ability to do some of those things, the ability to impact the game at both ends,” Boylen said after Wednesday's practice, per Sam Smith of Bulls.com,

“He's (Carter) our best pocket (in the lane) extra guy. He can catch the ball in the pocket and make a decision. That's usually not a skill for a young guy. He can rim protect. He can do the straight up at the rim. He'll adapt and he'll grow. I think people underestimate how smart he is. I think that's a really big thing. He knows what we're doing. He never asks ‘What are we doing there?' Or ‘How's that work?' He's an intelligent young guy. And I've said this before, he embraces contact and collision. If you can do that, man, you can do anything in this world.”

In his rookie campaign, Carter put up 10.3 points per game on top of 7.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists across 25.2 minutes in 44 games, all of which as a starter. The Bulls shut him down in March as he had to undergo a thumb surgery.

In the games he played in, however, Carter Jr. proved that he's going to be a solid player for the team. If Boylen's words prove prophetic, then we may have the second coming of The Dream.
