Arizona Cardinals starting running back Chase Edmonds received some bad news, being diagnosed with a high ankle sprain sustained in Sunday's win over the 49ers.

The hope was that it was a minor sprain and Edmonds would be listed day-to-day. That is not the case. As reported earlier by ESPN's Adam Schefter, Edmonds is now expected to miss multiple weeks.

The Cardinals impressed a lot of people, drubbing San Francisco 31-17. The game was not as close as the score indicated.

Arizona was dealing with serious injuries across the board. They were without Pro Bowl quarterback Kyler Murray, All Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, former elite WR AJ Green, and lost Edmonds in the first quarter. Yet, they dominated their division rival on the road.

The loss of Chase Edmonds provides more opportunity for James Connor to impress. Connor is tied with Derrick Henry with 10 rushing touchdowns this season.

Edmonds provides more quickness through the hole, but Connor is a good downhill runner and has a nose for the goal line.

Cardinals backup RB Eno Benjamin will take on secondary duties rushing the ball. He filled in as the backup admirably Sunday. He rushed nine times for 39 yards and 1 touchdown following Edmonds' injury.

Arizona hopes to get their playmakers back this week. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury would not commit to Murray being available for this Sunday's game vs the Panthers. Meanwhile, Hopkins is considered day-to-day after missing the game Sunday.

It also is not known if AJ Green will be cleared in time to play this weekend. Green remains on the reserve/COVID-19 list after failing a test last week.

The Cardinals are the only team with one loss in the NFL, and hope to remain atop the conference with a home win vs the Panthers Sunday.
