Arizona Cardinals rookie linebacker Isaiah Simmons is viewed by most as one of the top players in this year's NFL Draft class, but he obviously still has a whole lot to prove.

With the coronavirus pandemic still looming, Simmons and the rest of his peers are a bit of a disadvantage from previous draft classes because they haven't been able to work out with their teams.

However, that isn't stopping Simmons from setting a high bar for himself:

“I’m not going to adjust my personal goals because we’re having a little adversity with this global pandemic,” Simmons said, according to Kyle Odegard of the Cardinals' team website. “It’s either I’m going to achieve my goals or I’m not at the end of the day. I don’t feel like I should lower my expectations or my standards for myself just because there are a few obstacles in the road.”

At the same time, Simmons is avoiding putting too much pressure on himself:

“I’m not going to come out here and say I want to be defensive rookie of the year,” Simmons said. “That would be great and all, but I believe if I come out there and play, everything will fall in place. My biggest goal is to just make as big of an impact as I can for this organization.”

Simmons, who played his collegiate football at Clemson, was selected by Arizona with the eighth overall pick of the draft back in April.

The 22-year-old is coming off of a monster junior campaign in which he racked up 104 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, eight sacks, three interceptions, a couple of forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and eight passes defended.

Perhaps Simmons can bring some life to a Cardinals defense that finished last in the NFL in 2019.
