When the news struck that the Arizona Cardinals acquired DeAndre Hopkins in a trade, the entire sports world was in awe of the move. And it appears that Kyler Murray was just like everyone else when the report leaked. During an appearance on ESPN, Murray discussed his reaction to the Cardinals trading for Hopkins.

“I didn’t believe it,” Murray said this week on ESPN, via Dana Scott of the Arizona Republic. “As soon as I was told, I went to YouTube and watched his highlights. Obviously, I know a lot about DeAndre, watching him for years. I didn’t believe it.”

Essentially, the trade was centered around Hopkins going to the Cardinals while the Houston Texans received David Johnson. As a result, plenty of fans questioned Houston's reasoning behind moving on from Hopkins. Even when the details of the trade were official, Murray still couldn't come to grips that Arizona was able to land the All-Pro wide receiver.

“I knew it two weeks before and I still didn’t believe it until they tweeted it and it got announced,” Murray said. “I had a smile from ear to ear. Obviously, getting to work with him a couple weeks ago, great dude, loves to play football and I’m excited to have him.”

Seeing that the Cardinals added Hopkins, there are lofty expectations for Murray and the offense in 2020. Besides Hopkins, Arizona's passing attack will feature Christian Kirk, Larry Fitzgerald, and Kenyan Drake. While he's gotten a chance to play alongside a legend like Fitzgerald, Murray never envisioned getting Hopkins in just his second season with the Cardinals.
