Oliver Marmol's headaches are getting bigger in the St. Louis Cardinals system. The Milwaukee Brewers are pulling away with the NL Central lead while their pace has yet to pick up. Now, they also have to deal with a big injury concerning Nolan Arenado. The third baseman went down in the eighth inning against the Miami Marlins and was not quick to get up to his feat. Understandably, the Cardinals faithful held their breath for a long time and waited for an update.

The Cardinals fans finally got their much-needed update and it was not the best. Nolan Arenado disclosed that he was not feeling too well after that unfortunate mishap during the Marlins game, via MLB.com.

“Probably gonna be pretty sore. It sucks that it's my throwing hand, so I don't know. I don't know how long it's gonna be. Hopefully, there's no IL stint, but, you know, it's gonna probably be a few days. So hopefully I can get back Saturday. Or for some reason if it feels really great, tomorrow or something. I don't know.”

Arenado is suffering from a right elbow contusion and is being evaluated as day-to-day. The injury occurred when he was hit by a pitch during the eighth inning. He then grimaced in a lot of pain.

How bad was it? Well, the pitch was recorded to have a speed of 94.6 mph which would obviously hurt anyone who got hit. Fortunately, the hit was not on the bone but it still struck a nerve quite literally which made his hand cramp up.

The X-rays did come back negative for the Cardinals' third baseman. But, it will take some time for Oliver Marmol and the rest of the staff to deem him capable of coming back to the team.

Arenado does have hope that he returns to the squad before they face off against the San Francisco Giants. There is no certainty of this happening because even Arenado does not know how well his arm will respond to the treatment.

How severe was Nolan Arenado's injury during Cardinals vs. Marlins?

When a player goes down and misses time, it usually does not wind up well for the team. This might not be the case for the Cardinals. Arenado noted that, while the pitch severely hurt, he is capable of coming back from this injury setback.

“I feel okay. There's no break, but it kind of got me, like, in the nerve, so my hand kind of went into a claw and it's kind of hard to move my fingers right now. I felt kind of like numbness, and like I said, it's actually kind of hard to move my fingers right now, because it hit the nerve. So yeah, I don't know. I haven't had it happen before — I've gotten hit before, but haven't got hit like that.”

They are going to need Arenado if the goal is to catch up to the Brewers who are seven games ahead in the NL Central. Hopefully, he is able to get back into the rotation as soon as possible.
