Boston Celtics director of player personnel Austin Ainge shared that the team has already brought 70 prospects for NBA Draft workouts.
Per Brian Robb of the Boston Sports Journal, Ainge said that they've scouted plenty of prospects so far and still have some more to go. The Celtics have a total of three first round picks in the upcoming 2019 NBA Draft, which is the most among NBA teams.
“We've had 70 guys in,” Celtics director of player personnel Austin Ainge said Monday at the Auerbach Center. “We've been to Portsmouth, we've been to G-League camp who had draft guys and the Combine. Between all of that, it's a lot of guys we've been able to see so far. We still have some to go but we've had a good chunk of the guys we're evaluating in already.”
The Celtics have acquired some of the top prospects who have shown great upside potential in the past few years. In recent memory, the likes of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown come to mind. With just a total of five years of experience between them, Tatum and Brown have managed to become key parts of Boston's recent playoff runs.
This offseason will be critical for the Celtics amid rumors that Kyrie Irving will not return. Inserting three first-round picks into the line up may seem out of tangent to a contending team like Boston, but given their history of developing young players into potential stars, it's a risk that they are willing to take.
