Just a few minutes into the season opener for the Boston Celtics against the Cleveland Cavaliers, things quickly took a disastrous turn of events as All-Star forward Gordon Hayward suffered a gruesome broken left leg injury.

During that time, what was quite noticeable to Celtics co-owner Steve Pagliuca was how swift the medical help was to aiding Hayward after the injury occurred, according to Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe.

“It was well-handled by Cleveland and it was well-handled by our staff,” said Celtics co-owner Steve Pagliuca, who stayed with Hayward after the injury. “For something that was that traumatic, people really leaped into action. And I think it’ll pay off in the long run in his recovery.

“It was the NBA at its best. Everyone realized it was more important than any game.”

In a matter of moments, Hayward received medical from the medical staff on hand at the Quicken Loans arena on Tuesday night. His leg was quickly straightened out and put into a cast then hauled off on a stretcher.

There was no question that this was situation that shook everyone up in attendance, but the way it was handled after the injury was performed quite well. This helped significantly lessen the concerns around the 27-year-old as he was quickly moved into a secure area where he could receive more medical attention.

Above all else, how the entire situation was handled by the medical staff in Clevelands deserve much praise for their professionalism and care in what was a frightening moment.
