The Boston Celtics are hoping to be a team that can compete for an NBA title in the Eastern Conference. With the recent struggles of the Celtics, Danny Ainge believes that Boston doesn't have what it takes to win an NBA title this season based on how he is seeing the team perform right now, per Sean Deveney of Forbes.

Following Wednesday's loss to the Atlanta Hawks, the Celtics have fallen to 14-14 on the season, which is still good enough for the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. However, after a nice start, the Celtics lost six out of their last 10 games, including five out of their last seven.

The duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown has taken strides forward together this season, but the rest of the roster is lacking firepower. Though, it should be noted that the Celtics do miss the presence of Marcus Smart on the court, who is dealing with a calf injury.

Ainge's comments about Boston not being a contender at this current moment are interesting considering that he's put together the current roster. At the same time, he's had plenty of opportunities to acquire All-Star talent in recent seasons, only to be hesitant on pulling the trigger.

With the trade deadline approaching, Ainge's remarks on Boston's current position could lead to them being buyers on the trade market. On the other hand, his comments could be an attempt to motivate the players on the roster. Ainge hasn't been shy about possibly making some moves, which could lead to members of the Celtics playing elsewhere if things don't change.
