Despite all the rumors of the All-Star guard leaving the Celtics this summer, Ainge still found a way to give credit where credit is due. After all, Irving was one of the main reasons why they made it to the playoffs this season.

Kyrie averaged 23.8 points, 6.9 assists, and 5.0 rebounds this season, helping the Celtics clinch the fourth best record in the Eastern Conference. However, their championship aspirations were cut short by the Milwaukee Bucks in the second round of the playoffs.

Irving is set to become a free agent this summer and some of the teams expected to go after him in free agency are the New York Knicks and the Los Angeles Lakers; with the former hoping to pair him with Kevin Durant while the latter eyeing his reunion with LeBron James.

During the beginning of the season, Kyrie remained confident that he will re-sign in Boston this summer, but as the season progressed and frustrations continued to grow, it seems that his commitment with the franchise has slowly but surely diminished.

Of course, Ainge will do everything that they can to keep Irving. The Celtics GM has always been optimistic about this situation regardless of all the speculations have been coming out for months.

The veteran executive will try to find ways to sort this one out and repair what appears to already damaged relationship between the team and Kyrie.
