The Boston Celtics were a Jaylen Brown layup away from overtime against the San Antonio Spurs – but it wasn't meant to be.

The Celtics star was gifted an easy steal off the Spurs inbound play and had a clear look at the rim to send the game to overtime. That is, until he botched it.

While Celtics fans were obviously distraught by the sequence of events, nobody was more disappointed than Jaylen Brown himself. Brown was quite succinct in his assessment of what happened.

“I smoked the f—ng layup,” said the Celtics star.

“Got a good steal going up against the clock and I just blew the layup.”

While Boston still had to win in the overtime period had they made it, playing in front of the home crowd would've given them the edge. In all fairness to Jaylen Brown, he was a big reason why they were able to stay in the game in the first place, pacing the Celtics with 30 points on the evening.

A win would've given them a three-game winning streak. Instead, the loss becomes their fourth in their last six games and drops them down to 10th in a hotly contested Eastern Conference playoff picture.
