Kevin Garnett has one regret in his Hall of Fame career. The Big Ticket told Shams Charania of The Athletic he should have joined Paul Pierce on the Boston Celtics earlier than he did.
Garnett and Pierce won the 2008 title over Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers. KG, though, believes he and Pierce should have more rings under their belts:
“If I could actually go back and change anything, I would’ve left Minnesota a little earlier, knowing that the management wasn’t as committed as I was,” Kevin Garnett told Charania.
“Or wasn’t committed at all. I probably would’ve went to Boston or changed the situation earlier. I would’ve been a little younger and that means less wear and tear on the body. Teaming up with Paul (Pierce), I should’ve done that earlier. Who knows — I’m probably sitting here with another ring or two. But, yeah.”
The Celtics went to the 2010 Finals, but lost to Kobe and the Lakers in seven games. The one championship back in 2008 was nice, but Pierce and Garnett should have won more, at least in KG's eyes if he joined the Celtics earlier in his career.
The Celtics traded Pierce and Garnett to the Brooklyn Nets together. Garnett was voted as a Hall of Famer this past weekend. Pierce will get that honor as well once he's eligible.
The Celtics will retire Garnett's No. 5 jersey next season. Pierce's No. 34 jersey already hangs in the rafters at the TD Garden.
