Boston Celtics All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving is one of the most lethal scoring talents on the court, and his new team missed that ability when they fell just short against his old team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, in the Eastern Conference Finals. Irving missed the entire postseason due to knee surgery.

As the new season approaches, it will be interesting to see how far a full-strength Celtics squad can go. When it comes to preseason-related action, though, Irving is slated to miss Boston's next game at TD Garden against the Cleveland Cavaliers before suiting up once again for the preseason finale at Quicken Loans Arena.

Based on his recent preseason performance, the 2016 NBA champion may already be at full strength without any sign of rust on the court. Irving led the Celtics with 20 points while shooting 7-of-14 from the field in a win against the Charlotte Hornets.

Still, the Celtics should make sure to keep the mileage on Irving to a minimum if possible. With chronic knee issues, there is no telling when those could hamper him again. For another successful playoff push, having their All-Star point guard at 100 percent will be crucial.

Last season, Irving recorded 24.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 40 percent from the 3-point line. His clutch scoring and dangerous isolation offensive capabilities were deeply missed during their playoff run.

After that preseason finale, Boston will start its push for a championship on Oct. 16 against the Philadelphia 76ers.
