The much-publicized rift between Ray Allen and his Boston Celtics teammates has taken a turn for the worst in recent months.

After choosing to sign with the Miami Heat in 2012, which was ironically the team that eliminated them that same season, many Celtics felt betrayed by Allen’s actions and accused him of being disloyal, not only to the team but also to a group of players who considered each other family.

This led to a crack in the relationship between both parties, whose effects can still be felt until this very day.

Recently, the two-time NBA champion spoke with Shams Charania of The Athletic and shared how he doesn’t expect to receive a congratulatory call from any of his former comrades, most notably Rajon Rondo and Kevin Garnett. While he was able to mend fences with Paul Pierce last summer, he also doesn’t foresee any reconciliation happening with the others.

Still, this sour breakup has not affected how he perceives with the White and Green went. While appearing on The Jump, this is what the NBA’s all-time leader in three-pointers had to say:

Ray is right in saying that winning can really bring about many positive feelings. Ask any player and they’ll tell you that a championship is always their ultimate goal. However, its certainly bittersweet how such a fond memory – as shared by Allen – can also lead to such negative emotions.

Overall, this really is a heartbreaking story and as fans, we can only hope the time does indeed heal all wounds and they somehow find a way to make up.

The 2008 Boston Celtics, after all, was one of the best teams in NBA history. It would definitely suck that such a seemingly pointless beef would take away the shine from their historic run.
