Could the Boston Celtics trade Jaylen Brown? Apparently, some teams near the top of the NBA Draft are wondering about the availability of the young wing, according to Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe.
Of course, given the recent developments in Boston, it seems hard to believe that the Celtics would trade Brown now, as Kyrie Irving is likely gone and even Al Horford seems to be on his way out.
Trading Brown in a package for an established star would have made sense if one of Irving or Horford were sticking around, but with both veterans appearing to be on their way to playing elsewhere, dealing Brown away now just doesn't seem all that plausible for the C's.
It wouldn't even necessarily be a matter of clearing money, as the Celtics would actually open up enough cap room to sign a max free agent if they renounce the rights to both Irving and Horford, and with Brown's contract up at the end of next year, Boston could take some of that potentially available money and put it toward re-signing him.
The 22-year-old is coming off of a 2018-19 campaign in which he played 74 games and averaged 13 points and 4.2 rebounds over 25.9 minutes per game while shooting 46.5 percent from the floor, 34.4 percent from three-point range and 65.8 percent from the free-throw line.
Brown got off to a very rough start but began to pick things up in December and actually had a very impressive second half of the season.
The Celtics originally selected Brown, who played his collegiate basketball at the University of California, with the third overall pick of the 2016 NBA Draft.
