The Boston Celtics announced in a Monday press release that they have officially signed center Vincent Poirier to deal. The deal is reportedly for two years.

Following the announcement, Poirier expressed his excitement to fulfill his lifelong dream of playing in the NBA and joining the Celtics, describing the storied franchise in a colorful way:

Boston's history is certainly stuff of legends, though fans wish this past season was actually a myth. Poirier will now try to help the Celtics return to glory after a disappointing 2018-19 campaign.

Poirier spent the past six seasons playing in Europe. His most recent stint was with Kirolbet Baskonia of the Spanish Liga ACB and the EuroLeague. In 34 games in the Liga ACB this past 2018-19 season, the 25-year-old French big man averaged 9.1 points and 6.2 rebounds while shooting 61.4 percent from the field.

His averages rose to 11.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 61.7 percent shooting in the EuroLeague tournament. These numbers helped him earn a spot on the All-EuroLeague Second Team.

Poirier should fill a positional need for Boston. The Celtics lost two key centers this past summer. All-Star center Al Horford signed with the Philadelphia 76ers after backup center Aron Baynes was traded to the Phoenix Suns. They were, however, able to soften the blow by signing Turkish big man Enes Kanter.

Should Poirier show up to the league with an NBA-ready game, he should be able to fill in the spot left by Baynes.
