The Boston Celtics kicked off their 2018-19 in the same manner the Boston Red Sox did in Game 3 of the ALCS: with a decisive victory. And just like Red Sox outfield Jackie Bradley Jr, who hit a huge grand slam Tuesday night against the Houston Astros, forward Jaylen Brown provided the Celtics’ own signature moment against the Philadelphia 76ers: by finishing a layup over the outstretched arms of Sixers big man Joel Embiid.

Well, Jaylen Brown obviously intended that to be a dunk, but he and the Celtics will take a two-pointer any way they can. Plus, that staredown from Brown on Embiid more than made up for that botched dunk attempt.

Brown played a key role in the Celtics’ dominant 105-87 win over Philly. He finished with 12 points, five rebounds, and two assists in 28 minutes of action. Those are not sparking numbers, but he did have a plus-minus of +11 – the second best among the Celtics. As for Joel Embiid, he had 23 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks in 37 minutes on the floor, albeit in a losing effort.

The Celtics will look to go up 2-0 in the standings on the road against another contender in the East in the form of the Toronto Raptors. The Sixers, on the other hand, will try their luck in a Thursday meeting at home with the Chicago Bulls.
