Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom has once again reiterated his desire to keep Xander Bogaerts with the team past the 2022 season.

Speaking to “The Greg Hill” Show on WEEI  93.7 ahead of the Red Sox's road series finale against the Chicago White Sox on Thursday, Bloom noted that he is “hopeful” that a resolution will end up coming to this dilemma.

“Nothing to report but also our stance here hasn't changed,” Bloom said. “We want him here, we know he wants to be here and we're hopeful we can find that path.”

Bogaerts will have an opportunity to leave the Red Sox later this year, as he has a player opt-out in his contract for after the 2022 season. He does currently have four more years remaining on his contract, which include a $20 million vesting option for the final year of his deal.

On Bloom’s part, he has continued to be vocal about his aspiration to see Bogaerts remain in Boston. He noted ahead of the season that he wants the shortstop to stay put with the Red Sox for a “long time.”

In the big picture, contract talks on this matter will not resume anytime over the remainder of the ongoing campaign, as Bogaerts’ agent, Scott Boras, noted earlier in the month that such discussions will continue “after the season.”

Bogaerts has been among the bright spots in Boston’s lineup so far in the season, posting a .323 batting average to go along with 17 RBI recorded through 42 games played.
