The good news is that Thompson is now doing fine and is recovering from the incident. But details have emerged about how Harrison Butker helped Thompson in his time of need.
During a conference with the media, Chiefs head trainer, Rick Burkholder, revealed that Butker “ran to the training room to get trainers after BJ Thompson suffered a seizure and went into cardiac arrest on Thursday,” according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.
Butker's quick actions may have saved BJ Thompson's life. Luckily, Butker was there to alert the training staff and get Thompson the medical attention he needed. It was a scary moment and the Chiefs kicker handled it well.
Harrison Butker was recently at the center of controversy after sharing his opinions and beliefs during a college graduation ceremony. He's been the kicker for the Chiefs since 2017 and will likely maintain his job through the 2024 season. However, Kansas City is floating the idea of having a position player kick the ball on kickoffs thanks to the NFL's new rules.
As for BJ Thompson, he played college football between 2017-2022. He began his collegiate career playing for Baylor before transferring to Stephen F. Austin. Coming off another Super Bowl win, the Chiefs aim to make NFL history and become the first team ever to win three consecutive championships in a row. The Chiefs are going to utilize speed to its fullest. After signing Marquise Brown in free agency and selecting Xavier Worthy in the 2024 NFL Draft, Kansas City should be flying down the field often. Additionally, Travis Kelce returns and the team is still waiting to see what happens with Rashee Rice. However, back up that passing game with Isiah Pacheco's powerful running style and you have yourself a dangerous offense.
On top of that the defense should remain one of the best in the league. Although they traded L'Jarius Snead to the Tennessee Titans, the Chiefs' defense still has plenty of talent to compete with opposing offenses.
When it comes down to it, we should expect Kansas City to be at the top of the rankings throughout the entire 2024-25 season. Even if the Chiefs look sluggish to begin the season, they can ultimately bounce back and go on a winning streak at any moment. Overall, this is a team that is likely going to be in the mix for the Super Bowl unless a surprise team in the AFC knocks them out in the playoffs.
