Even as Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is still just in his fifth season in the NFL, he could reach a pair of notable feats against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC divisional round that a multitude of Hall of Fame passers did not achieve in their careers.

Mahomes has simply been a standout performer in his playoff career with the Chiefs. In nine career playoff games, he has recorded an astounding 2,728 passing yards and 22 passing touchdowns. He added to these totals in the Chiefs’ AFC wild-card win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, as he notched 404 passing yards and five touchdown passes.

As it stands, Mahomes needs a mere 272 passing yards to reach 3,000 such yards in his playoff career. This feat would move him from 23rd place up to 18th in this historic leaderboard, passing the likes of longtime New York Giants passer Eli Manning (2,815 passing yards) and Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach (2,791 passing yards).

More so, Mahomes is just three touchdown passes away from reaching 25 such passes in his playoff career. This sure is quite impressive considering that longtime Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks Staubach (24 passing touchdowns) and Troy Aikman (23 passing touchdowns) did not achieve this feat, even though they each orchestrated multiple lengthy playoff runs over the course of their respective careers.

At this rate, Mahomes will only continue to reach historic milestones after another in the next couple of seasons. In the big picture, the Chiefs passer is aiming to eliminate the Bills to clinch a fourth consecutive appearance in the AFC Championship game.
