The L.A. Clippers have gotten back on the right track following a 125-121 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night's nationally televised TNT game. While the players have been doing the work on the court, it appears their scouts have also been doing work off the court as well.

According to Joe Vardon of The Athletic, L.A. has been sending scouts to Cleveland Cavaliers games and could be looking at Cavs' guard/forward Rodney Hood.

Hood is playing on a one-year qualifying offer worth $3.4 million. Because he’s on a qualifying offer, he can refuse any trade. The Cavs, meanwhile, are clearly rebuilding, and teams are studying them to scavenge spare parts. The Clippers, for instance, have scouted the last several Cleveland games, home and away.

The Clippers being interested in Hood is certainly a bit surprising considering they're already maxed out in regards to their roster spots, and if there's any position they're currently lacking in, it's the ‘rim-protecting big man' spot. Hood doesn't exactly fit that role… at all. Not only that, but Hood isn't that great of a defender, either.

Still, Hood could make some sense for the Clippers because they have too many guards, he's a serviceable 6-foot-8 forward at just 26 years of age, and he's in the final year of his deal, meaning he won't affect the cap space they plan to have in the summer of 2019.

The Clippers, like a lot of teams, need a wing (Hood is 6-foot-8). They don’t want to take on new money (his deal expires at year’s end). They have not explicitly expressed interest in Hood, I’m told. I’m telling you, though, that these are the Clippers’ needs and financial situation and they’ve been watching the Cavs play in person.

The tricky part about Hood's current deal is that he's on the Cavs' one-year qualifying offer, meaning that he has veto power over any potential trade so that he could retain his Bird Rights. The Cavs don't have a clear offensive weapon this season outside of Jordan Clarkson and the developing Collin Sexton, so Hood is in a good position to show off his talents in Cleveland.

Hood is averaging 13.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.3 three-pointers per game this season on a career-high 44.3 percent shooting from the field and 37 percent from beyond the arc.
