It goes without saying that the future of Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant is far from being set in stone. Meanwhile, head coach Jason Garrett is doing his best to avoid any questions about the star wideout's looming status with the team.

However, the clock is ticking for both sides to decide how they want to approach it. According to Marc Sessler of nfl.com, Garrett is straying away from commenting on the latest negotiations with Bryant for the time being:

“We haven't had any specific personnel meetings about any of our players,” Garrett said of Bryant's contract — and roster — status. “We'll have some more meetings starting this week once we get back to Dallas about the specific roles for each of our players moving forward.”

Bryant endured an underwhelming 2017 NFL season, to say the least. He registered 69 catches for 838 yards and six touchdowns in a year where the chemistry with quarterback Dak Prescott was virtually non-existent. As a result, Bryant has emerged as a strong candidate to receive a pay cut this offseason.

The three-time Pro Bowler is slated to make $12.5 million next year. However, Cowboys' executive vice president Stephen Jones has been vocal about the deal being too rich for the team's taste. That could mean that Bryant's most likely options are to take a pay cut or test free agency.

Needless to say, neither of which sounds appealing to the star wideout. Unfortunately, he has shown little flashes of the player he used to be which does not bode well for his prospects in free agency. That said, it will be interesting to see if both sides can come to an agreement by the March deadline.
