Yu Darvish knew his name was in trade rumors, but he was still blindsided when he found out about the Chicago Cubs sending him to the San Diego Padres on Twitter, per NBC Sports Chicago.

Darvish tweeted this on Monday night:

Yu Darvish

While Darvish later showed some sense of humor about the situation, it's still not the best look for Chicago.

The Japanese national is involved in a seven-player trade involving the Cubs and Padres. Darvish and Victor Caratini are going to San Diego in exchange for veteran pitcher Zach Davies and four young prospects in Owen Caissie, Ismael Mena, Reginald Preciado and Yeison Santana.

Darvish was previously signed to a lucrative six-year, $126 million contract by the Cubs back in 2018. In his first season with his new team, he only played sparingly and started eight games due to right triceps tendinitis. He was able to bounce back in 2019, tallying an ERA of 3.98 and 225 total strikeouts in 35 appearances as a starter for the team.

The right-hander was especially good in the second half of 2019, and he rode that momentum into the shortened 2020 campaign. Darvish finished as the runner-up in NL Cy Young voting thanks to a sterling 8-3 record and 2.01 ERA.

The four-time All-Star will join former Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Blake Snell as two star newcomers who will bolster San Diego's rotation for the 2021 MLB season. The Padres' blockbuster acquisitions will hopefully get the team over the hump in the playoffs and into the World Series.

Meanwhile, the Cubs seem to be facing a rebuild after trading their ace. Could more trades be coming down the road involving stars such as Kris Bryant and Javier Baez? Nothing should be ruled out at this point.

If they do, it would be nice if they didn't find out on Twitter.
