The Philadelphia 76ers and the Brooklyn Nets made one of the most talked-about trades of the year. Hours before the 2022 NBA Trade Deadline, the teams finalized a blockbuster deal surrounding James Harden and Ben Simmons.

However, there was another player on the mind of Sixers' general manager Daryl Morey before this deal came to fruition.

Morey joined the Colin Cowherd Podcast Wednesday and gave just enough information on the trade offer to keep fans guessing.

The Sixers GM said that a few days before the deadline, they originally offered one first-round draft pick for a player in the Western Conference.

“I was talking to a Western Conference team who, we liked a player on their team. We offered one first for that player, they said no, and I got a little bothered with the GM. I'm like, this guys never gonna give this player up.”

He then said he offered the mystery team two first-round picks “to see what happens.” Although, according to Morey, “every human on earth would have said ‘oh my god you have to give that player up for two firsts,'” the team rejected the offer.

When it came time to make the move on Harden, the Sixers again debated whether or not to offer two first-round picks. Morey told Cowherd that one of the Sixers' front office members brought up the rejected trade. “Like three days ago we couldn't even get this player for two firsts, why are we debating this,” they allegedly said.

Morey agreed, and the Nets got two first-round draft picks, Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, and Andre Drummond in exchange for James Harden and Paul Millsap.

The GM didn't reveal who the player was or what team he plays for, but he did make one thing very clear: whoever they were eyeing before they finished the deal with Harden was no where near as talented as him.
