Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki is nearing his twentieth season with the blue and silver, rounding out his campaign as a tried-and-true Dallas hero. He was anticipated to play the final year of his two year $50 million contract this upcoming season, but the Big German seems to have longer term intentions with the Mavs organization. According to ESPN's Marc Stein, it seems Nowitzki is looking for an updated contract situation.

Apparently, Nowitzki is strongly attached to the idea of signing another two year deal ensuring that he plays until he is 41 years old. Not only that, but he would then surpass Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant as having the longest run in league history playing for one single team. Although the Mavs are currently struggling to have a season above .500, reaching this accolade will have mean something to Nowizki, much like his efforts in putting up 30,000 career points in the NBA last season.

Because the league has pretty much favored the Golden State Warriors to make it out of the Western Conference for the next few years due to Kevin Durant's big move last year, it is hard to say if the Mavs will go on another illustrious title run much like their 2011 endeavors. Either way, Nowitzki is content with remaining the face of the Mavs through the good times and the bad.
