After suffering a brutal shoulder injury last week, Dodgers outfielder Kevin Pillar was placed on the IL. Tests revealed that Pillar had suffered a fractured shoulder after sustaining the injury while sliding into third base shortly after clubbing a double. Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts revealed Sunday that Pillar's season is effectively over as a result of the injury, with the veteran outfielder set to undergo surgery on Tuesday.

Roberts described Pillar's season as being over “for all intents and purposes,” essentially ruling out any possibility of the LA native returning to the team later on this season. It was a painful-looking injury and the MRI results indicated that he suffered a fracture in his left shoulder.

Pillar had played in just four games for the Dodgers this season after signing on during the offseason. A native of West Hills, California, he had been given the opportunity to play for his hometown team, but unfortunately, his season will come to an abrupt end following the serious shoulder injury.

The 33-year-old joined the Dodgers on a one-year deal during the MLB offseason. He spent the 2021 season with the New York Mets, where he featured in 124 games, slashing .231/.277/.415 with 15 home runs and 47 RBI. Pillar didn't see that type of playing opportunity on the loaded Dodgers, however, and now he's set to be shelved for the remainder of the year.

After starting his career with the Blue Jays and playing his first seven MLB seasons in Toronto, Pillar has played for five different teams since leaving the Jays in 2019 via a trade with the San Francisco Giants. In 2020, Pillar had brief stints with the Rockies and Red Sox before heading to Queens in 2021.
