Los Angeles Dodgers star Freddie Freeman has had a nice season in 2022. And in his first season in Dodger Blue, the first baseman will head to the Midsummer Classic.

Freeman was named to the National League All-Star Team on Sunday night. The MLB named him to the roster as a replacement for New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte, who will be inactive for the game.

Freeman is fourth in the majors with a .321 batting average. His .927 on-base-plus-slugging percentage is seventh in the league, and his 59 RBIs are 13th.

He has played all 90 games this season, leading the Dodgers with 114 hits so far this season. Freeman entered the break on a 16-for-24 pace.

Freeman is in his first season as a member of the Dodgers. He left his longtime team, the Atlanta Braves, before the season began. He later fired the agent that facilitated the Dodgers' move as controversy around the negotiations arose.

Last year, Freeman defeated his current team in the National League Championship Series. He and the Braves went on to win the World Series over the Houston Astros.

“This is the Freddie that, from the other side, you’re trying to prepare against,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of Freeman this week as he tore up the baseball. “There’s nowhere to go, no lanes to go to get him out.”

The veteran first baseman had originally planned to spend time with his family and welcomed the break the All-Star Game provided.

“Sometimes you don’t want the All-Star break to come,” he said. “But I think we could all use the rest.”

Instead, he'll join a number of his teammates at Dodger Stadium to partake in the festivities of the Midsummer Classic.
