BioWare recently revealed their upcoming game Dragon Age: The Veilguard, however, an official release date isn’t out yet. It’s been nearly a decade since the launch of Dragon Age: Inquisition. Looking at the developers’ previous pattern, it usually took two to three years before the next installment of Dragon Age came out. However, given the interval between Inquisition and The Veilguard, many fans began to lose hope in ever getting another Dragon Age game.

Now with the fourth installment in the mainline series soon coming out, here’s everything players need to know about the game.

Dragon Age The Veilguard Release Date – Fall 2024

BioWare didn’t officially announce an exact release date for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. However, they did mention that the game will drop sometime in the fall of 2024. That means players get to explore the world of Thedas once again in a few months from the time of this writing.

The game will launch on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. While the developers already announced the game, they are yet to reveal the price tag. If we were to make a wild guess, we could assume the game might cost $69.99 considering how most games today cost that much.

As for the required specs one must have to run the game, the developers are also yet to announce them.

Gameplay

Based on the gameplay reveal alone, there are already a lot of differences compared to the first three Dragon Age games. While Dragon Age: The Veilguard maintains BioWare’s signature in-game decision-making, it appears the developers went in a different direction with combat.

For starters, the upcoming game looks to be more focused on hack-and-slash combat. This is an interesting decision by the developers considering how Dragon Age has always been a strategic type of game. While the previous installments also had hack-and-slash elements, what made them unique was to pre-determine the outcome of a battle with the pause-and-play combat style. Players were able to prioritize killing other hostiles that initially weren’t within range during real-time combat.

Looking at the gameplay reveal, there technically still is a pause-and-play mechanic. However, the feature seems to be a method for players to choose an ability to cast while pausing time. Back then, pausing time was essential given how players could use that period to send allies to get rid of specific enemies. In the gameplay reveal, it’s more of a time to use to select abilities.

All of that remains to be seen though. It’s possible that the developers didn’t reveal everything yet. However, it seems quite odd for them not to show off a staple mechanic in a gameplay reveal video. Whatever the case may be, Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s gameplay looks promising and will still keep players engaged.

Story

Dragon Age: The Veilguard takes place after the events of Inquisition. BioWare deserves a lot of praise for giving players the option to carry over their previous decisions in the 2014 title. The Veilguard’s story will somewhat rely on what transpired in the previous game. However, players will still technically start fresh given how they’ll be creating a new character.

Players, the rook, will set out on a quest to correct the wrongs of the Solas. The elven trickster attempted to separate the regular world from the demon world, which accidentally freed two powerful ancient deities that players now need to get rid of.

While Solas was a companion in Inquisition, his betrayal completely set the tone for the upcoming game. Players now need to restore the world by defeating the two ancient deities and putting a stop to Solas’ antics.
