It wasn't supposed to end this way for Coach K and Duke.

The Blue Devils were hoping to send off their long-time coach on a high note: by winning him another NCAA trophy. After all, Mike Krzyzewski announced earlier that this season will be his last one coaching for the team. The least the team could do for their mentor was give him one final taste of glory.

Alas, it wasn't meant to be. Facing a feisty UNC Tar Heels squad, Duke bowed down, losing in heartbreaking fashion to their rivals. Coach K's last game with the team might be a loss, but the coach was still proud of his team for giving him one hell of a final game. (via Jeff Goodman)

“These kids made my last time in the arena an amazing one.”

Duke's campaign ironically ended at the hands of their long-time rivals UNC. The Tar Heels have already spoiled Coach K's farewell tour once, when they beat their rivals during the coach's last home game. Paolo Banchero and the team were hoping to avenge their loss a few months ago, but they fell just short of the goal.

It's unclear what's going to happen next for both Duke and Coach K. No indications of a potential replacement have surfaced so far. It's also possible that Krzyzewski could go back on his word and come back for one more season. We've already seen one all-time great “un-retire” and come back for a farewell tour. What's stopping Coach K from getting in one more season to exact revenge on UNC?
