The Philadelphia Eagles are in a bit of turmoil at the moment. Since winning the Super Bowl back in 2018, the franchise has nearly dropped off the face of the earth. They've traded away Carson Wentz, making room for Jalen Hurts to grow and prosper.

However, according to Adam Schefter, Nick Sirianni is not willing to name Hurts as the starting quarterback as of yet. A decision that typically makes sense, as most clubs welcome competition to ensure they have the best players moving forward. For Hurts though, he was drafted in the second round of the 2020 draft, and it's been speculated he's the clear-cut starting quarterback moving forward.

It raises concern for Eagles fans, as Sirianni's take has generated speculation that Philadelphia might select another quarterback early in the upcoming draft. despite signing Joe Flacco in the offseason as well. Luckily, not too long after this report, Adam Schefter provided some context to Sirianni's words.

Now it all makes sense. Sirianni was named the head coach of the Eagles back in January. He hasn't had much time to spend with anyone on the team, especially with COVID-19 protocols still prevalent. According to Sirianni, there will be a position battle for each spot on the roster.

For a new head coach for a new team, this approach makes complete and total sense. Only being able to meet a handful of players on the roster through a virtual meeting just isn't enough for a coach to evaluate his team.

With this recent news, it's no wonder the Eagles have been trading back to acquire as much draft capital as possible for the future. Philadelphia is likely going to cast a wide net in the upcoming draft, as Sirianni will be searching for players to fit his scheme.
