Week 6 of the Fantasy Baseball season is soon to be upon us. Last week, some of our recommended players included Jameson Taillon and Taijuan Walker who paid off in their outings. One or two solid pitcher streamers can be the difference between a win or a loss in any given fantasy baseball week.
As always, we will preview the top two-start projected pitchers and the top one-start projected pitchers for Week 6. When streaming pitchers it is important to remember that you don’t want to drop key players on your roster for a streamer. Streaming should be utilized when you either have an open roster spot or you have interchangeable players on your team.
With that being said, let’s get into the top Week 6 pitcher streamers. Each pitcher listed will be rostered in under 50 percent of leagues according to ESPN.
Top Week 6 Fantasy Baseball Pitcher Streamers
Two-Start Pitchers
Chris Archer, MIN, 2.9% Rostered
Matchups: @OAK, @KC
Chris Archer is not the same pitcher he once was. He isn't going to strike out the world nor will he work deep into games. He has yet to work beyond 4 innings in any outing this season. But there is upside for Archer in these matchups.
Oakland and Kansas City feature bottom-tier offenses. The A's have out-performed expectations but are still an offense worth streaming against. Archer has only surrendered more than 2 runs once and that came in the form a four-run performance against the talented Astros.
So Archer seems like a good bet to give you 4-5 decent innings while adding a few strikeouts in both games. Archer won't make or break your team, but he can help improve ratios this week.
Yusei Kikuchi, TOR, 37.9 % Rostered
Matchups: vs. SEA, vs. CIN
Yusei Kikuchi's 4.15 ERA and 1.42 WHIP won't entice fantasy baseball managers. But there is reason to believe that he could be in store for a tremendous Week 6.
Kikuchi's last two outings came against the Yankees. He tallied 11.1 innings pitched between both games and surrendered just 3 total runs while striking out 14.
And that was against the Yankees!
So there is no reason to believe that he can't fare even better against the Mariners and Reds. Kikuchi hadn't struck out more than 4 batters in a single game prior to his two Yankees performances, so perhaps he is settling into the 2022 season.
Kikuchi is one of my favorite two-start options this week.
Jameson Taillon, NYY, 27.2% Rostered
Matchups: @BAL, vs. CHW
Jameson Taillon was on the Week 5 two-start pitcher streamers list, but his Tuesday start got pushed back to Wednesday. Barring unforeseen circumstances, Taillon is scheduled for a two-start week in Week 6.
The right-hander has excelled as of late despite some difficult matchups. Taillon limited the Blue Jays to just 2 runs over 5.1 innings this past week. He has already earned 3 wins on the season in part due to the Yankees explosive offense. Taillon should be able to hold his own against the Orioles and White Sox this week.
One-Start Pitchers
Reid Detmers, LAA, 10.6% Rostered
Matchup: @TEX
Reid Detmers is fresh off of a no-hit performance against the Rays. The young Angels' hurler spun nine hitless innings while striking out just 2 batters. Detmers is not going to strike a lot of batters out, but he is useful in fantasy baseball since he tends to keep runs off the board.
Detmers has not surrendered more than 3 runs in any of his past four starts. The Angels 6-man rotation is difficult to project but he is currently on track for an outing against the Rangers. But even if he gets pushed back he would get to face the A's.
Michael Lorenzen, LAA, 23.2% Rostered
Matchup: vs. OAK
It hasn't been all that often that two Angels pitchers are recommended in fantasy baseball over the years. The team has struggled to develop starting pitching and owning their pitchers in fantasy has not been a recipe for success. But this is a new season and the Angels have some legitimate arms in their rotation.
Lorenzen has been a bit inconsistent this year. He fired 8.1 innings of 3-run ball against the White Sox two outings ago, but then struggled through 4.2 innings of 5-run ball in his last outing. He is scheduled to make a start against Oakland on Saturday of Week 5 before facing them in Week 6 at home.
Fantasy baseball managers will want to keep an eye on Saturday's outing. But regardless of the outcome, unless Lorenzen completely blows up, I would recommend taking a chance on him in Week 6.
Final Thoughts
There aren't many quality two-start options this week. You will want to be sure to pick up the pitchers we recommended in this article before it's too late.
Good luck in Week 6!
