It hasn't been an easy season for head coach Patrick Ewing and the Georgetown Hoyas. With just two regular season games remaining, the Hoyas are sitting at 6-22 with an 0-17 Big East record. At one point, Georgetown had lost 18 straight contests, a university record. The poor results called Ewing's job status into question, as rumors of his firing began to swirl. However, the Hoyas legend received a major endorsement amid the firing rumors on Wednesday, as reported by CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein.

The Georgetown athletics department released a statement throwing their support behind Patrick Ewing as their head coach. The university noted that they are obviously disappointed with the results of the lackluster season, though they cited the Hoyas' success in the Big East tournament last season as reason to believe that he can “strengthen their program moving forward.”

The 2021 Hoyas finished 13-13 but ended up winning the Big East tournament, defeating higher seeded teams such as Villanova, Seton Hall, and Creighton to earn the conference title. Georgetown was defeated in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, though there was hope that the university would build on the results in 2022.

That hasn't been the case, though it's encouraging that the Hoyas' first NCAA Tournament since 2015 has come under the leadership of Ewing.

It seems that the firing rumors will die down after Georgetown's statement on Patrick Ewing.
