One of Germany's best players will not be competing for the country in the Eurobasket 2017 Qualification Round.

Point guard Dennis Schroder has opted to skip his national team duties this summer as announced by the German Basketball Federation on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old will now focus on his new role with the Atlanta Hawks as he is set to become the team's new starting point guard after the departure of Jeff Teague. Now with a new-look team, he will be quarterbacking a team with three former All-Stars in Paul Millsap, Kyle Korver, and the team's big pick up this free agency, Atlanta native, Dwight Howard.

Even with his absence from the German National team this summer, he said, from a translated tweet by the federation,  that “This doesn’t change my commitment for the German National Team. The 2020 Olympic Games remain my focus.”

With the amount of talent and level of competition in Europe, the task to qualify has now become more difficult for the Germans as another notable player, Maxi Kleber will also not be in uniform this August.
