Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2021 if he doesn't sign the supermax extension with Milwaukee this offseason.

Much has been made about Antetokounmpo's future with the Bucks. Milwaukee shooting guard Pat Connaughton, though, admits it's not too big of a deal to the Bucks players:

“It’s something I would talk about with him. We’re close enough friends where we definitely could. And I think our team is so close and so great as far as talking about things other than basketball, and business, and world issues, social issues. Kyle Korver brings a great element to those sorts of things. I think we have a very close knit team in our locker room,” Pat Connaughton told Michael Pina of SB Nation.

“I think sometimes it gets brought up randomly in passing and things like that, but I think at the end of the day, for us, it’s not as big of a deal as it is for the rest of the world. Obviously the city of Milwaukee, the team, everyone wants Giannis to be here forever. But Giannis has put himself in a position to provide for his family from growing up with nothing in Greece, and I don’t think you can fault Giannis for whatever decision he ends up making, that he believes is the best decision for him, his family, the people who are closest to him.”

By all accounts, Giannis not only loves playing for the Bucks, but he also enjoys living in Milwaukee. The reigning MVP just had a son as well. The Bucks star might not want to make his family pack up and leave as a result.

The Los Angeles Lakers and Toronto Raptors have been the two teams that have been linked to Giannis in free agency. The Lakers have former Bucks coach Jason Kidd as an assistant. The Greek Freak and Kidd were very close in Milwaukee.

The Bucks had the top record in the NBA before the 2019-20 season was suspended due to COVID-19. It's unknown if play will be resumed.
