Something that flew under the radar in the middle of the hoopla following the New York Giants' decision to trade star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns in a blockbuster trade last week was the fact safety Jabrill Peppers was among the pieces the Giants received in return.

While Peppers may not be as impressive as Landon Collins, whom New York let walk via free agency, he is still a good, young defensive back with a whole lot of promise, and general manager Dave Gettleman says that Peppers does not feel any pressure to fill Collins' shoes:

“Jabrill Peppers is coming here to play football,” said Gettleman, via the Giants' official Twitter account. “He's very bright…he doesn't feel that pressure (to replace Landon). He's thrilled to be coming home. He's really excited to be a Giant.”

Peppers is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played in all 16 games, registering 79 tackles, a sack, an interception, three fumble recoveries and five passes defended.

The 23-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Michigan, was originally selected by the Browns in the first round (25th pick overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He went on to appear in 13 games during his rookie season, finishing with 57 tackles, a pick, a fumble recovery and three passes defended.

The Giants won just five games this past year and have made the playoffs just once since last winning the Super Bowl during the 2011-12 campaign.

New York will have the sixth overall pick in next month's NFL Draft.
