It looks like Landon Collins is getting his wish.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the New York Giants have informed Collins that they will not be placing a franchise tag on him, making the safety free to explore the open market in free agency.

Rumors were circulating that if the Giants decided to use the franchise tag on Collins, he would have held out through training camp until New York gave him a long-term deal.

Now, Collins won't have to deal with that potential problem.

The 25-year-old is coming off a 2018 campaign in which he missed the last four games due to a shoulder injury that required surgery. In the 12 games he was on the field, Collins registered 96 tackles, a forced fumble and four passes defended en route to his third straight Pro Bowl appearance.

Collins, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was originally selected by the Giants in the second round (33rd pick overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He had a solid rookie campaign, starting all 16 games and finishing with 108 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble and nine passes defended. He then broke out in a big way the following season, racking up 125 tackles, four sacks, five picks, a fumble recovery, 13 passes defended and a defensive touchdown, resulting in his first trip to the Pro Bowl and a first-team All-Pro selection.

Collins then tallied 99 stops, a couple of interceptions, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and six passes defended in 2017. He made his second Pro Bowl that season.
