The New York Giants made their most crucial move of the offseason by hiring Joe Schoen to be the franchise's next general manager. The former assistant general manager of the Buffalo Bills has a lot of work to do with New York's roster. First, though, he has to find the person to lead it.

The Giants' head coaching spot has been a mess since Tom Coughlin left. From Ben McAdoo to Pat Shurmur to Joe Judge, New York has only produced a carousel of incompetent coaches that last two seasons on the job. Schoen needs to find a good one.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Giants will look at an in-house candidate for their head coaching vacancy by interviewing defensive coordinator Patrick Graham.

Graham joined the Giants as their DC in 2020. The 42-year-old served as the Miami Dolphins' DC in 2019 and has experience as a coach of specific defensive positions with the Giants, New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers. He helped lead the Giants' defense to an impressive 2020 season, which made him a candidate to be the New York Jets' head coach last offseason. Graham chose to remain with the Giants.

Aside from Graham, Schoen seems to be fixated on Bills' coaches. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Buffalo's offensive coordinator Brian Daboll and defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier will get interviews. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Giants are expected to request an interview with former Dolphins head coach and New York City native Brian Flores.

The Giants have suffered under an inept GM that hired bad head coaches for over half a decade. Although the roster needs a lot of work, improving New York's fortunes starts at the top.
