The New York Giants have requested the Dallas Cowboys' permission to interview Jason Garrett for their offensive coordinator role, according to Ed Werder of ESPN.

The Giants hired New England Patriots wide receiver coach Joe Judge to be their next head coach. He has never been a head coach and has spent most of his career as a special teams coordinator. Without any head-coaching experience, it makes sense the team would want to hire someone with a lot of experience to be coordinators.

Garrett started his coaching career with the Miami Dolphins as a quarterbacks coach in 2005. In 2007, he was hired as the Cowboys offensive coordinator and served in that role until he took over as the team's interim head coach in 2010.

The Giants need to make sure they get this offensive coordinator hire right because he is going to have a big impact on the development of Daniel Jones.

Jones showed flashes of being a franchise quarterback as a rookie but he also showed many areas where he can really improve in the coming years. Jones finished the season completing 61.9 percent of his passes for 3,027 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

One of the biggest things for Jones is working on the turnovers and making smarter decisions with the football. If the Giants decide to hire Jason Garrett or go in a different direction the team needs to make sure they get this one right. Not developing Jones into a great quarterback could set them back five years or more.
