The New York Giants are coming off yet another season that resulted in another shortcoming with missing the playoffs for the fifth time in the last six years. This has led to the front office hedging toward making some notable changes to the roster to shift things in the right direction.

It has led to the Giants to decide to part ways with sixth-year punter Brad Wing on Saturday afternoon. According to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, the decision to part ways with Wing could possibly be a telling sign of what the Giants are planning to do with Odell Beckham Jr.'s contract situation.

“The Giants on Saturday cut punter Brad Wing, a close friend and former LSU teammate of Odell Beckham Jr.’s who also shares an agent with the star receiver, Zeke Sandhu of Elite Athlete Management, that is in the middle of negotiations with the Giants on a contract extension for OBJ.”

What makes this situation interesting is that Wing had a developed a close friendship with Beckham Jr. along with sharing the same agent as the star wide receiver. It is an intriguing situation that has only been heightened by the recent video displaying the 25-year-old doing some possible questionable things with many speculating that it could have been drug use involved.

New York has already voiced that they are aware of the video that has become a controversial situation in the latest round of issues that the team has had with Pro Bowl wide receiver. All of this has led Leonard to voice during a recent interview that he believes that Beckham Jr. won't be a member of the team by the 2018 season opener.

What should be taken into consideration is that Beckham Jr. is in the fifth-year option in his rookie deal that will pay him $8.4 million for the 2018 campaign. The two sides have been progressively hedging toward a new long-term contract, but this controversial video could potentially shift the franchise away from committing to him.

With the free agency period nearing its start in a few days, things could pick up on this front as the Giants truly assess whether Beckham Jr. is a player that they want to build around for the long haul.
