Love it or hate it, LIV Golf has taken the golfing world by storm over the past few months. The Saudi-backed league has seen a number of different former PGA stars join its circuit. Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, and Bryson DeChambeau headline the stars who left the PGA and joined LIV Golf. But now, Ryder Cup Captain Henrik Stenson is following suit.

The Swedish golfer has played on both the PGA and European Tours. He's well-liked and extremely talented, but it will be interesting to see what kind of reaction he gets following this LIV Golf decision. As a result of the decision, Stenson has been stripped of his Ryder Cup captainship.

Ryder Cup Europe released a statement on the matter, per Golf Digest.

“In light of decisions made by Henrik in relation to his personal circumstances, it has become clear that he will not be able to fulfill certain contractual obligations to Ryder Cup Europe that he had committed to prior to his announcement as Captain on Tuesday March 15, 2022, and it is therefore not possible for him to continue in the role of captain.”

Henrik Stenson declined to comment.

However, Golf Digest shared a now-conflicting comment Stenson made in March after becoming Ryder Cup Captain.

“There's been a lot of speculations back and forth, and as I said, I am fully committed to the captaincy and to Ryder Cup Europe and the job at hand. So we're going to keep busy with that and I'm going to do everything in my power to deliver a winning team in Rome.”

But his perspective has clearly changed over the past few months.

LIV Golf has been a major talking point as of late. Some people support it while others do not. Tiger Woods recently made his feelings known on the matter.
